A cleaning contract is a written agreement between a cleaner (or cleaning company) and a client that sets out the cleaning tasks, how often visits happen, the rate and how it is paid, who supplies products and equipment, access and keys, cancellation and lockout fees, how breakages are handled, and how either side can end the arrangement. It turns a recurring cleaning job into predictable, paid work.

Cleaning Service Contract: common questions

What should a cleaning contract include?

The tasks and areas, visit frequency, the rate and when it's paid, who supplies products, keys and access, cancellation and lockout fees, how breakages are handled, and the notice period to end the service.

Should a house cleaner charge for last-minute cancellations?

Most do. A lockout or late-cancellation fee (often 50% of the visit) protects the time slot you kept free. The template lets you set the notice period and fee.

Who is responsible if a cleaner breaks something?

Usually the cleaner is responsible for damage caused by their negligence, not for items that were already damaged or not secured. Agree a reporting window and carry liability insurance — the template covers both.

Do I need a contract for regular house cleaning?

It isn't legally required, but it prevents the common disputes — what's included, lockouts, late payment and breakages — and makes it easy to raise rates or end the arrangement fairly.

Is this contract legally binding?

A signed agreement with agreed services and rates is generally binding. This is a template, not legal advice; local rules may apply to employment status and business licensing.
